Volunteering Opportunities

While not a comprehensive list, these are some options that our mentees have explored in the past. If you’d like to let us know of other programs, please feel free to contact us with suggestions.

  • Missouri Botanical Garden: MOBOT offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for students ages 14-18 through their Teen Network.

  • Teen Leaders and Junior Leaders at Gateway Region YMCA: Students can plan and execute both volunteer and social events.

  • Saint Louis Science Center Junior Internship: The program gives teens the opportunity to engage in customer service, assist with the galleries, and gain pre-employment experience in science-related fields.

  • Saint Louis Science Center YES (Youth Exploring Science) Volunteer Program:  This program provides inquiry-based learning that focuses on science, technology, engineer, art, and mathematics.
  • Zoo ALIVE Volunteer Program: High school students can help with the Zoo’s conservation program and teach weekend programs to scouts, preschoolers and more. This program is a year-round program.
  • Local Medical and STEM Opportunities: Check out this list of volunteer opportunities for those interested in medical and STEM careers.

  • idealist: This is an excellent listing of volunteer and job opportunities.
  • DoSomething.org: DoSomething is a youth-led movement for good. Members join volunteer, social change, and civic action campaigns to make real-world impact on causes they care about.
  • Volunteer Match: This website connects volunteers with nonprofits in the greater St. Louis area.
  • Volunteer Crowd: This is a student volunteer marketplace, transcript, and portfolio platform for college and career-bound students.
  • GVI: This organization runs youth volunteering opportunities overseas where high school students can gain hands-on experience and immerse themselves in a new culture and environment.
  • Volunteer at Area Libraries: Students can volunteer at local libraries such as the St. Louis County Library or the St. Charles-City County Library Branch.
